A group lesson is $45 per person and a private one is $50, both an hour long, board and instructor included. Two students per instructor, never three. You pay $10 up front to hold the spot and the rest in cash on the sand.

No. A soft-top board of the right size for your weight and height comes with the lesson, and so does the leash. If you already own a board and would rather use it, bring it and tell us.

Yes, from seven years old, in water they can stand in. A responsible adult has to be on the beach during the lesson. We can teach an adult and a child in the same slot so nobody waits alone.

Two or three days is enough to be sure of a spot. There are normally two windows a day, and each one depends on how many instructors are free, since we only put two students with each. In high season they fill up. If you are already in town, write anyway: sometimes there is room for the same day or the next one.

Because the beach only works for beginners at certain tides, and the tide moves a little later every day. So the good hours are different on every date: one day the morning window opens at 7, the next at 8. There are normally two windows, morning and afternoon, and some days only one. Tell us your date and we give you the exact hour for that day.

No to all three. There is water for sale at the beach but it is expensive, so bring your own. Put your sunscreen on before you walk down. And bring a rash guard or a t-shirt you can surf in, we do not lend them. We bring the board, the leash and the instructor.

Any month works for beginners. December to April is dry and sunny with smaller, cleaner waves, which is the easier learning window. May to November brings rain in the afternoon and bigger swell, so lessons move to the calmest window of the day and to the most protected corner of the beach.

You need to be comfortable in water deeper than you are tall. You do not need to swim well. The board floats, you wear a leash, and your instructor is within arm's reach the whole class.

Most people do, inside the first hour, on a soft-top in the small whitewater at Estero. If you are one of the ones who doesn't, we tell you what is going wrong instead of pretending the class went great. The second lesson is usually where it clicks.

Rain does not cancel a lesson, and neither does grey sky. Lightning and thunder do, because nobody should be holding a board in the water under a storm. That is the one case where the deposit comes back in full.

If we cancel for lightning or thunder, yes, the full $10 comes back to you the same day and you do not have to ask. If it is your plans that change, we do not send the money back in cash, because that board and that hour were held for you. But do not write it off either: message us and we will look for a way to fit you in. We would much rather see you in the water than keep ten dollars.
